We are inviting all of you to consider being a part of a delegation from University Church to attend this year’s Ecumenical Advocacy Days March 23-26 in Washington, DC.  Our delegation will be joining with hundreds of other people from across the country addressing issues that relate to social justice and our response as Christians.  There are many sponsoring organizations, two of which are our own denominations: United Church of Christ and Christian Church, Disciples of Christ.

There will be music and worship, inspirational speakers, informative workshops on issues from education to poverty to immigration to Latin America to Afghanistan…and then on Monday, March 26, we head up to Capitol Hill to meet with our legislators. We will have specific bills that we will be encouraging our representatives to support.

For more specific information, check out the website at www.advocacydays.org.

Approximate cost of attendance:

  • Registration:  $180.00
  • Housing:  Doubletree Hotel in DC (Crystal City, near Pentagon): $119/night (2 double beds) x 3 nights
  • Airfare:   Approximately $300 round trip.
  • Total:  Approximately $840  (plus food costs, although some food is included)

We recognize that this is fairly expensive, so the Social Justice committee will be making some scholarships available to help subsidize the cost for those who need assistance.  If you are interested in going but need some assistance, write a letter to the Social Justice Committee (in care of Sharon Hunter Smith or Pat Wilcoxen, chairs) and state why you would like to attend. Costs could be kept down also by sharing a hotel room, or if you stay elsewhere with friends or family in DC.

So…check out the website; talk to your friends; sign up soon!
