Charles Thomas Hayes began as Director of Music in September of 2012. He holds music degrees from Cornell College of Iowa and the University of Iowa, and has done additional graduate work at Roosevelt University and The Catholic University of America. Charles is a Chicago native and was on the staff of the Chicago Children’s Choir for more than a decade. In addition to his duties at University Church, Charles is a member of the music faculty at Urban Prep Charter Academy and is the Gospel Choir Director at The College of Lake County. Charles is the founding director of The Chatham Choral Ensemble and Music Director for The Greater Chicagoland Opera Guild and the principal conductor of the Classic Act Choral Ensemble. He holds memberships in The American Choral Directors Association, Music Educators National Conference, and the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity.
